CMRC Interview

KTM's Jacqueline Ross Interview from Moto Valley Raceway
Oscar Forever

September 19,2009 was one of the hardest days of my life.  A close friend of mine, Oscar Diaz, was murdered just after winning a race in Guatemala.  This is a tribute I wrote to him for the October issue of FLMX Magazine.  This ones for you Oscar....

I can still hear him shouting ''J-RO'' from across the way and I would yell back ''De la Hoya!!!'' Then we would exchange a dap and a hug. As I write this, its hard to stomach that this tragic event has happend. Oscar was an awesome person, and great friend of mine.

I remember watching him moto. You could tell he loved what he did, just by his riding. His Father, Mario and him made a great team. I loved watching his races with Mario and just watching how Mario would react when he was out front or made a good pass. I remeber a race at Reddick, it was just after Oscar came back from having his shoulder fixed. He was way out front just railing the turns and I was standing with Mario and you could just tell he was so proud of his son. I remeber saying to Mario, '' Dude, he's ripping!'' and Mario responded with ''you never forget something you love to do.'' Oscar loved to moto, you could just tell. I remeber when we were practicing out at Bartow in May and he was telling me that he was gonna qualify for a AMA National this summer. I remeber texting him with a congrats after he did it at Red Bud. Oscar was a guy with a dream who worked hard and went after it and accomplished it.

What was even better than his riding was the person that he was. Always smiling from ear to ear with those dazzling white teeth (Oscar, what toothpaste did you use to get them that white!?) and always willing to help out whoever, wherever. I remeber 2007 at Mini O's when he took me to the line for my first moto. It was a messy mud moto, my Dad was busy with work and here comes Oscar to the rescue. All clean clothes, white shirt, he didnt care though..there he goes digging out my gate in the pouring rain. Thats just the kind of person he was, anything to help out a friend. Or even if you weren't a friend, you most likely would be one after the fact! I had so many great memories with him. How about how crazy his driving was on a mule or golf cart. He could have easily been a rally car driver! I would say a prayer everytime we would get in that and he would be driving, i remeber when we almost flipped Santa Clause's( Big Rick) mule at mini O's last year. Or how about when we almost crashed into the side of his 5th wheel while Oscar was towing me on the handle bars of his bicycle. haha I will never forget my 20th birthday when we went to Halloween Horror nights and me Oscar, Camilo, and Javi are holding each others hands, about peeing our pants because we were so scared! We were all homies, Oscar, Es eh' (Camilo), and myself the ''Gringa'' they would call me. I think it means crazy american girl in spanish. We always had a blast together. When Oscar was around, you never knew what was going to happen other than fun was a 100% guarantee and that you would most likely be in tears from laughing so hard. I will cherish these memories, always.

Heres to a guy that was full of life, love, happiness, and a great spirit. Oscar, you left us as the champion you are. Thank you for all the laughs and being a great friend to me. I'm sad that you are no longer with us, but you will be alive in my heart forever. Its not goodbye, its see you later. We'll always be homies forever..love you buddy, I miss you.

See you later De La Hoya

Rest. in. Paradise.

So it begins...

Sorry for the delay everyone, its been a while!  As T.I. once said, ''I'm gone momentarily, but don't bury me yet.''    I had quite the moto filled weekend!  Call me Miss. Nostalgic, but I really can not wait to get back on my bike!  Its like an itch I can't scratch, a fire inside that wont go out!

Last Saturday I spectated at the first round of the ECRA [East Coast Racers Association] Pro Am Supercross Series, held in Daytona Beach at the Ocean Center.  I rolled up to Daytona for the evening program.  It felt like a reunion when I got there!  I ran into a bunch of people that I haven't seen in whats felt like forever!  It was good catching up with everybody!   It was definitely kewl to see a local supercross event!  The event brought in the local talents of Matt Boni, Oscar Diaz, and Ricky Renner.  As well as a few riders from the West coast: Kevin Johnson, Casey Hinson, and a guy reppin' a KTM 250 2 stroke!  It was nice to hear that sweet sound!  Oh yeah, 'One Punch' Evans (he doesn't scare me! ha) was mannin' the pits for Hinson.   The Amateurs raced during the day and the Pro's had the night card.  The Main event was good, but the Dash for Cash race was even better!  Matt Boni and Casey Hinson were going balls to the wall...almost into it! haha  On a track with lap times of about 40 seconds they exchanged the lead 3 or 4 times!  It was intense!  Hinson came out on top, but Boni showed more class.  I guess its like they say, ''rubbin' is racin?' It was kewl to watch all the guys mix it up!  Lately the only people I've been mixing it up with are Betty Crocker, Duncan Hines, and the Pillsbury Doughboy! haha  Anyways, I had a fun time watching, Thanks Hoover for the hookup!

On Sunday, I helped out some good friends of mine get started in the moto world.  And people think the swine flu is bad?  Ha!  The moto bug is worse!  Its like twisting the throttle pumps the blood into your veins and then carries it to the heart.  Just love at first twist! haha From the smile on Billy's and Andrew's face I think it's safe to say they have definitely caught the bug!

Lately I have been doing a lot of baking!  A few days ago I made these triple chocolate raspberry cookies, they were so yummy, I'm surprised Betty herself hasn't called me yet for the recipe!  You watch, I will have one of those red boxes soon, except mine will be orange! If anyone would like to place an order just hit up the contact link and shoot me an e-mail! haha just kidding!  Here's a carrot cake I baked for my Grandparents!

Calgary

So back in the Bay I am, where its like 102 degree's!  [that would be about 38.8 degrees for all you Celsius folks out there]  Feels good to to be back home in the scorching heat.  Well the second round of the CMRC Nationals was held last weekend at Wild Rose Mx Park, in Calgary, Alberta.  Unfortunately, I wasn't able to ride the second round of the Royal Distributing Womens Nationals.  I wish I could have been out there, the track looked really fun!!  Lots of elevation changes and really kewl jumps!  What's really neat is the fact that the track is actually owned by the city!  They also have a BMX track on site as well.  Maybe more cities all around the world should take note on how the city of Calgary and its motocross community work together; so that motorcycle and bicycle enthusiasts have a place to ride.  Pretty kewl, eh!?  The view is killer too!

Before we got to the track we went to the Calgary Zoo!  It was so much fun!  The animals were awesome...one day I think I will own a Gorilla! haha They were definately my fave!

Again, thanks to my moto family and friends for the continued support.  To take a quote from a famous governor...

''I'll be back!''
